Jun 26, 2012
A child is dead following a traffic accident on the Northern Highway today. The mishap occurred at about a quarter to ten this morning just past mile thirty-five in the Rhaburn’s ridge area. Love News understands that the victim, six year old Lerone Jacobs, was along with his parent, Michell Saldivar, heading towards Orange Walk Town from the direction of Belize City when the light gold Toyota Corolla four-door car careened off the right hand side of the road and overturned a number of times, before coming to rest on swampy ground. In the process, six year-old Lerone Jacobs was flung out of the vehicle. He landed unconscious in the flooded swamp and reportedly died shortly after. He was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police are investigating the incident.
CITIZEN ON SCENE OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
“We were going on a school trip, we are from Salomon School, and we were passing just by the bridge when the bus driver stopped to render help because there was an accident on the road. When we stop, we went out to surrender help and we saw the car on the right hand side of the road with the lady there. She was crying for help so the gentlemen went there looking for the child because she couldn’t find her son. And the child was under the car so they took the child outside the car and he was given CPR but nothing could be done to him. So he was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital in a vehicle of the Ministry of Lands and we call 911 but we didn’t have any quick response from them and he was so desperate looking for the child and we were all there trying to help her but nothing could be done. We really don’t know how the accident happen but the car was apparently turned over on the road.”
