POLICE BUSTS TWO PEOPLE WITH DRUGS

Two people including a Belize City businessman were busted on drugs charges last night in the Cayo district. Just before nine o’clock last night, the duo was intercepted near Central Farm. Lead Investigator Inspector Reymundo Reyes spoke with Love News about the bust.

“A team of police officers from San Ignacio were at a particular check point near the Central Farm Area on the Western Highway where a burgundy jeep Cherokee with licence plate BZE40336. The two occupants were stop, driver at the time Castaneda 27 years old accompany was Pattnet 25 years old. A search on the vehicle lead to the discovery of a crocus bag containing low, inevitable substance suspected to be cannabis. Both persons from the vehicle were escorted to the San Ignacio police station where the drugs were weighed in their presence and amounted to 16 pounds of cannabis equivalent to 7,264 grams. Presently the vehicle is been keep at exhibit as well as $1,999 in cash that they had in their possession and today they are to be charge gently for the offence of drug trafficking.

“Inspector Reyes I understand that police got a tip or intelligence that this drug transhipment was taking place. Is that so?

“It was of a result from information received and so we set-up a check point at the area.”

“Where do you suspect this drug was coming from? Did they buy it from Cayo and was bringing it to Belize City?
REYMUNDO REYES, Inspector
“Yes, that is what we understood. That the purchase was made here in San Ignacio and they were transporting it to Belize City.”
Police do not believe that this was the first time that the duo had been to Cayo to purchase drugs. They remain in custody pending charges today, and police say they also intend to apply to the court to have the vehicle impounded until the conclusion of the trial.
