HIT AND RUN ON THE NORTHERN HIGHWAY Jul 02, 2012

A hit and run accident left a gruesome scene on the Northern Highway last night.  56 year old , Tower Hill Resident, Antonio Isabel Carballo was knocked down and killed between miles 50 and 51 sometime around 8 clock last night near a curve on a very dark stretch of the road between the BSI Factory and the Guninea Grass cut off. Carballo’s body was seen lying in the middle of the left lane of the highway from a north to south direction. Reports are that Castillo’s head had been run over leaving a horrific scene. We spoke with a driver who came across the body.

“I was coming from Tower Hill area about 8:20, to be exact, that was the time I called the police.  I approach a guy lying in the middle of the street apparently dead, I pretty much almost ran over him myself.  I made a U-turn and came back to the scene and when I got there he was dead.  It was apparently a vehicle - two or three vehicles, I don’t know how many vehicles ran over him before because he was like totally mangle, again this guy I would say a hit and run because the tire marks were there.  Obviously somebody hit him and took off. When we got there another vehicle came by, he didn’t even slow down, he just ran over the body again.  So I don’t know at that point what happened or what damage that vehicle caused.”

When police arrived they blocked off a portion of the highway to process the scene. Carballo is known in the Orange Walk community as “ Pancon” and was usually seen walking off the sides of the highway picking up bottles.  Orange Walk Police are investigating this incident. Anyone who has any information that may assist in the investigation is asked to call the Orange Walk Police at 322 2022. Reporting for Love News, from Orange Walk Town, I am Manuela Ayuso Cantun.
