MISSIONARIES FROM UNITED STATES CONDUCT WORK IN THE CAYO DISTRICT Jul 03, 2012

A group of young missionaries from the United States is currently conducting outreach work in the Cayo district.  The group has been working with the Salvation Army church in Georgeville and today, one of the team leaders Christopher Hoffer told Love News that it is a joy for the group to be taking time out to give of themselves to the youths of Belize.

CHRISTOPHER HOFFER, Team Leader

“We all came from the southern part of the United States.  All of us are from different states in the US.  We are from the southern region of the United States and we are here with the Salvation Army on a mission trip and basically what we are doing is we’re helping out at the local Salvation Army churches. We’re going to some of the schools and teaching bible classes, bible lessons and we are doing like a vacation bible school here in Georgeville so like we play games, we teach the kids.  We do like bible lessons but we also play games and do crafts like make coloured pictures and stuff like that, so that’s what we’re doing here in Georgeville.”

“What does it mean for a United States citizen as yourself to be on a mission trip like this to a country like Belize?”

CHRISTOPHER HOFFER, Team Leader

“I mean it’s an honour to be in this beautiful country, the people are very nice and the country itself is very beautiful but we love the fact that we are fortunate enough to be with the people and get to know the people of Belize and help out in some of the schools.  We helped out in one of Salvation Army School in Belize City.  We helped the kids with reading and learning how to write and it’s just a really good opportunity for us and we just love the fact that we get to be here.”

Hoffer says there are six members in his group, with an average age of twenty one years old. The group leader says they are enjoying the experience of being in Belize.

“When we get to know people, some people would give them e-mails, some people would just become friends on Facebook if they have, you know, if they have a way to be on a computer we become friends with them on Facebook and just that kind of thing but either way whether or not we would also pray for the people when we leave, when we go back.  So we don’t just come here and then leave, we always remember everybody, we take lots and lots of pictures of people that are our friends, people we meet and we pray for them, just become friends with them as well.”

The team is expected to continue working in the Cayo district for the remainder of the week.
