MURDERS IN THE COROZAL DISTRICT UNDER INVESTIGATION Jul 12, 2012

 

Love News’ Correspondent Dalila Ical has been following up on the murders in the Corozal District.  Here is her report

 

DALILA ICAL, Reporter

“Police were called at approximately 10:20 last night and found one person dead and another severely injured at eh Corozal Community Hospital.  The deceased was identified as Robert Hernandez, thirty eight year old car dealer of Carolina Village in the Corozal District.  He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body.  A second person identified as fifty year old Kenrick Vaccaro, Belizean labourer of  Corozal Town was receiving treatment for gunshot wounds. Vaccaro was later transported to the Northern Regional Hospital but succumb to his injuries at about 1:20 this morning.  Officer in charge of the Corozal Police Formation, Supt. Gualberto Garcia says their investigations revealed that there was only one trigger man.”

“Investigations revealed that at about 10:15 PM last night, Mr. Hernandez and Mr. Vaccaro were leaning on a pick up on Sixth Ave. Corozal Town when a gun man dressed in a camouflage jacket and a white cap came by riding on a bicycle, got off the bicycle and fire about eight shots towards their direction causing the said injuries.  The gun man then ran towards Seventh Ave. and made good his escape.”

“No one has been arrested but the police may have some leads.”

“At this moment we do not have anybody in custody as yet however our investigation has revealed the name of a person who we are looking for at this moment who might give us some more information in regards to this incident.”

“The death toll as a result of gun violence in Corozal rises to four in just seven days.  Police are still investigating the double murder of Clari Fredersdorf and her daughter, Shanny Fredersdorf that occurred on the night of July 4th. Two persons who were detained but had to be released for lack of evidence.  We ask Supt. Garcia if the police are concern about a rise in gun violence in Corozal.”

“The concerns I would say country wide the rise in crime and Corozal who is a peaceful community or was a peaceful community is seeing its share of it and I can assure the community that the police officers here in Corozal we are working as diligently as possible to curve this situation in an effort to have a safe Corozal as it has always been.”

“Supt. Garcia also asks for the public’s help in solving these homicides.”

“Am asking the community who ever have any information to this murder and even the murder last week for them to come up.  They can call me, come see me in my office personally or they can pass on any information they have to our recently form citizen coalition to protect Corozal. Since we are working together for the same purpose of restoring the confidence here in Corozal.”
