A University of Belize student was found dead this morning in San Ignacio town. 

The victim has been identified as twenty one year old Suzenne Martinez.  According to a preliminary report issued by the police press officer Raphael Martinez, the young victim left her home on 18th Street in San Igancio Town around six thirty yesterday morning, enroute to the University of Belize but did not return home. 

Police say that when she did not arrive back home at the customary time between nine and ten o’clock last night, her parents went to file a missing person’s report at the police station. 

Twenty four hours after she left home, Martinez’s body was found not far from her home.  Her body was found lying in a ditch. 

Police say they have since detained one person in connection with the murder of Suzenne Martinez’ murder as their investigation continues.
