BTB REPRESENTED AT 2009 TAIPEI INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL FAIR

November 18, 2009

The Belize Tourism Board had representation at the 2009 Taipei International Travel Fair which was held Taipei at the end of last month. The four-day fair is the largest travel and tourism exposition in Asia. This year it had the participation of fifty eight countries and drew more than three hundred thousand visitors. According to Amy Leiva who represented BTB at the Travel Fair, Belize’s display was under the theme: Be One With Belize.

"It was centred on the three R's; the rainforest, the reef and the ruins. During the four day exhibition foreign and local reporters from the print and the media interviewed both myself and the embassy. We have Mr. Efrain Novelo from the Embassy of Belize in Taiwan; he was also a key person at the show."

Do you believe that our participation in the fair will help to attract more visitors from Asia to Belize?

Amy Leiva

“I believe so greatly. We had numerous representatives from local travel agencies, wholesalers and even the airlines visit our booth. They will be putting several packages together where they will be including Belize and they were very much interested because of the flights of Cancun. They have Cancun already in their packages so putting Belize as part is easier now having flights to Cancun then to Belize. Even Copa and Taca made a commitment to continue promoting Belize in that part of the world."

So, Ms. Leiva, Belize's participation is this fair is actually to our benefit?

Amy Leiva

"I would think so yes; definitely. It was the first time in 23 years that Belize was represented in Taiwan. They had representation from 58 countries and around three hundred thousand people visited that show within the span of October 30 to November 2."

According to a statement from the Belize Tourism Board, Leiva’s participation in the exposition was made possible by the Embassy of Belize in Taiwan and the Taipei-based Central America Trade Office.
