As the Department of the Ministry of Youth responsible for the employment of young people Youth for the Future Youth and its partners has planned activities to be held countrywide. "It is a great time to reflect on the situation that youths in Belize are in. Traditionally youth week is celebrated in the last week of November and this week is celebrated and observed in many countries around the world; Belize is no different. The difference thus far has been the inclusion of young people coming up with some of these activities. Youth for the Future and other organizations that work with young people basically take the back seat and provide technical and logistical support for these activities to get off the ground. It is merely activities that are youth centered as they are planned by young people themselves and it involves young people. On Friday there will be the Belize Youth Award and this will be held at the Biltmore Plaza at 6:30 pm. This is a highlight of the week of activities where young people countrywide who have been nominated will get an opportunity to receive awards in ten different categories. This is our way of thanking them for the efforts they have making in their respective communities. We have to go back to our theme: Youth Take a stand, lend a hand, mek wi bring back we community."

Another highlight for the week of activities is the inauguration of the Stann Creek Youth Office which took place this morning.

"This office is now located for the people of Stann Creek on the corner of Godfrey Ramos and Bishop Martin Street in Dangriga. It has been long awaited. Young people in Dangriga have been waiting for this opportunity to have their own office for a long time. They have been waiting to have their own space so that they can set up projects and programs and do positive things in the communities within the Stann Creek District. In this regard it could not have been possible without the support of the Ministry of the Ministry of Youth, the Mayor of Dangriga, the Ministry of Housing, of course the Youth for the Future Secretariat and the Director Mrs. Dianne Finnegan and the Social Investment Fund. They will be supplying us with the furniture and the office equipment we need. These are all beautiful things happening for Youth Week."

A full schedule of activities planned for Youth week 2009 can be found in the Sunday issue of the Amandala.
