NEMO’S HAIT RELIEF FUND STILL ACTIVE

It has been almost two months since Haiti was devastated by a massive earthquake. Although the story has moved from the headlines, Belize is still providing assistance to victims of the earthquake. Public Relations Officer for NEMO Rene Mendez told Love News the collection continues.

“Donations keep coming in to NEMO’s Scotia Bank account to assist earthquake victims in Haiti. On January 15, 2010, NEMO Corozal along with the Minister of health and the Corozal Town Council pooled their resources together and held a bar b que sale and radiothon under the banner, Together for Haiti. Some $5,600.00 was raised and donated to the fund. Among the most recent is a US $25,000.00 donation from Belize’s ambassador in the Dominican Republic, His Excellency Eduardo Llama. On 25th February, 2010 Belize Telemedia Limited on the occasion of the company’s annual general meeting in Belize City also donated $20,000.00 towards this humanitarian cause. The Ministry of Health also donated some $3,800.00 to the NEMO relief fund for contribution made by the staff members. The money has already been deposited in the NEMO relief account, adding to the existing fund. To date a total of $79,187.54 has been deposited to NEMO’s relief fund account #1934810 to assist the earthquake victims in Haiti. Other groups and individuals are also being called upon to make donations to assist in this ongoing relief effort. NEMO thanks the various groups and individuals that have made financial donations to assist the people in Haiti one way or the other.”
