Police in Corozal are investigating the theft of a skiff from the Belize Custom Department.

“Corozal Police along with the Belize Custom Department are investigating the theft of one of the Customs Department’s skiff’s outboard engine which was stolen at the Consejo entry point. Love News spoke with assistant in charge of Corozal Police, Inspector James Moreira, who told us more.

“On Wednesday at about 10:15 a.m. Kevin Jones who is the customs officer of Corozal, Consejo Shores area he reported to the Police that within the hours of 3:30 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. they discovered that the skiff that they have at the Consejo Shores Customs area was missing. The boat is a 25 feet skiff, black in color which had a 200 horsepower Yamaha outboard engine.”
A joint Police and Custom investigation has led to the discovery of the skiff in an area of Corozal known as Wart Beight. The skiff was however found without its 200 horse power out board engine. According to Police no one was found in the area where the skiff was recovered and their investigations continue. In other news, Corozal Police is also investigating a fire that destroyed a family’s house late Tuesday night. Police say that around 11pm on Tuesday they reported to a call of a fire at the corner of Ramon and Bella Vista streets in the Venezuelan Housing site in Corozal. Inspector Moreira tells us more.

“They visited the area and on their arrival they observed a wooden and zinc structure engulfed in flames. The building measured about 40 by 15. The Corozal Fire Department took control and extinguished the fire.”
Initial investigation reveal that Elidoria Catzim was in her house along wither five children when one of the children alerted her that the house was on fire. The six family members escaped from the building without getting hurt but the house was completely destroyed by fire. The house was uninsured. Police continue their investigation and so far understand that Elidoria and her husband had an argument that same night before the fire started. Police have not arrested anyone in relation to the fire and are looking at all angles.
