23-year-old Fredrick Flowers was gunned down this morning while he was talking to some family members on Bagdad Street. Eyewitnesses say that around 9:30 a lone gunman on a bicycle pulled out a nine millimetre handgun and fired eight shots at Flowers. He was only caught twice but he received a fatal blow to his chest. Police Press Officer Fitzroy Yearwood tells us more.
Fitzroy Yearwood; Police Press Officer
“When the relatives walked off a lone gunman on bicycle riding from the direction of Muscle Street to Alexander Street, dressed in full black just approached him and fired eight shots in his direction; one hitting him in the chest the other in the left leg. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. We do have some suspects in mind but we have to give the police time to investigate. We are asking the public to please come forward assist us because we know that nothing in Belize goes unnoticed. We have witnesses to crimes, we know that they are scared but we are asking them to please come forward. The only way we can solve crime is if we have the public working with us. We are asking the community at large to help us solve these crimes.”
Reports are that eight expended shells were found on the scene. Police say they are following a number of leads but so far not one has been detained in connection with this latest shooting incident.
