BELIZE CANOE TEAM WINS TEXAS CANOE RACE FOR THE SECOND YEAR.

The Belize Canoe Team has won the Texas Water Safari for the second time.  The team crossed the finish at 11o’clock last night, 38 hours after they began on Saturday.

“The Belize team did win by 45 minutes which is better than we expected. They took the lead about 15 hours into the race. The guys were sort of tired last nigh. When we watched the race we did realize that couples of the guys were tired. John Buggy did well. We give him thanks for everything. I knew it was going to be hard but I had confidence in team that we were going to win but it was not going to be easy. Mr. John slowed down because he race different from us. In Belize we are trained to go all out all the way. What we want is to get to the finish line. I spoke to the guys after the race and they said the same thing that John Buggy had been very concerned if he would have enough energy for the race for the second day because it’s such a long race. These guys were healthy, they were in great condition. They went hard both days. We won for the second year. Last year we didn’t get much credit for winning. This year the minorscame back in full swing and we did beat them. They were a good team and we will find out what will happen for next year.”
