The Sea Scout Unit of Belize has recently returned home from eight days of training. The unit trained in Chetumal for eight days with the Mexican Navy. This morning we spoke with Sea Scout Skipper, William Howie. William Howie: Sea Scout Skipper “We have come from eight days at the Mexican Navy. We did training in the helicopters and we trained with the patrol boats by the border and the kids walked with the Mexican Navy on oath. The helicopters landed to put the power in and to help put fuel in and get them on the ground and all aspects of basic Navy Life. The Sea Scouts is the Maritime version of the Belize Scouts and we do all Maritime things we have five sail boats that we sail every Saturday and we give training to the youths in sailing sail boats and we also train once a month with the Belize National Coast Guard Service and they get an opportunity to cruise the Coast Guard’s Skiff. The also get military drills and more training got be responsible and things.” Howie says the Sea Scouts unit is modeled after the Navy and that they are looking for new recruits ages eight to 18.
