August 17, 2006
With most of the summer camps coming to and end and with a little more that two weeks before schools reopen many children are at home watching TV. To be able to monitor what your children are watching the Cable Association of Belize is offering a free service to all cable customers. This morning we spoke with Cable Association of Belize President, Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy Johnson: Cable Association of Belize President “The cable companies have funding agreements right now with all customers throughout the country that we offer a free service that a customer can call in to any of the cable companies that you’re signed up with and we’ll send a technician to your home to assist you in programming out the respective channels that you wouldn’t want using the V chip once your T.V. is equipped with it. The technician can come out and show you how to use it, program it out and it doesn’t have words and stuff like that to filter out the channels that you don’t want.” We asked Johnson how the technology works. Jimmy Johnson: Cable Association of Belize President “The V chip is like a little code in the T.V. that can just program a specific frequency out of the entire bandwidth of the television. Then you can specifically say channels 60 or 20 or whatever channels and that will be blocked out until there but with a password you can view that channel so you would be programming that password using a remote control and then if you want to just take it off while your kids are at home unsupervised or something like that you can program it then when you come home in the evening and want to supervise your, the materials your children watch but then you can program it out and have parental discussions with your children.” Jimmy Johnson, President of the Cable Association of Belize.
