The body of American tourist Greg McLean was found this morning. McLean was reported missing at sea last yesterday. Love News spoke with Operations Officer at the Belize Coast Guard Lieutenant Bennett. Lieutenant Bennett: Operations Officer at the Belize Coast Guard

"At about 1800 hours last night, we received information from the Belize Port Authority Communication Center that a vessel by the name of Emily Rose had three passengers on board all of American nationality, Mr. Aniel Daniels, Mr. Robert Daniels and a missing person, Mr. Greg McLean. The information that we received was that they were out fishing near Spanish Lookout Caye and after that happened Mr. Greg McLean went overboard. This information was relayed to us; we have a vessel in that area. We were able to respond within 10 minutes and commenced to search however, our search was unsuccessful. Last night we called on the British Army Training Support Unit in Belize who provided a helicopter for us.They had good lighting for us during the search last night however; we didn’t find anything.  We continued this morning; we deployed one more vessel so we had two coast guards afloat the scene; a vessel from San Pedro Emergency Team by the name of Island Ferry which is equipped with medical oxygen tanks and other flotation devices assisted in the search this morning and we divided up the search area with the three vessels and the BPA wing came out and provided some area coverage for us and we found the body at about 11:20 hours this morning in the area southwest of Ponchegoat Caye. We are out there, the coast guards, Belize Port Authority, the BDF and other search and rescue agencies are out there.”

Bennett said there are a number of agencies that can assist in the event there is an accident at sea.

“We are able to fight for the people of Belize and other nationalities in our waters and it is important, for as soon as an accident happens that you report this information. The best means of doing this is by the 999 and it’s a free line, you can call through the communications center and they can discriminate the information from that location.”
