BENQUE HOUSE OF CULTURE RELEASES SEPTEMBER CALENDAR OF EVENTS

The September celebrations activities are in full swing countrywide. Pat Asling Coordinator at the House of Culture in Benque Viejo Del Carmen tells us of activities in that area.

“We have a couple of very special events going on. We will be having on the evening of the fifteenth, we will be having a lecture by John Hector Silva who is one of the only two remaining persons who was in the original cabinet back in 1981and John Hector, you hear him on the radio, he has a wealth of information not necessarily just about the Government but also about the whole country and its aspects. It will be a very vibrant and interesting talk that he’ll be giving. Following that we will have an official opening. Following that he also has some interesting photographs and these are going to be on display throughout from the 15th of September on through October and we will have an official opening for that exhibit at the same time. And on the 17th, Sunday afternoon at the Centennial Park here in Benque we will be having what I call a Musical Extravaganza, there will be a game demonstrating how talented our Belizean youths are. We will have demonstrations by Mount Carmel Marching Band and from Belmopan, the Our Lady of Guadelupe Steel Pan Band and as well music by the Cayo School of Music so we will be having a lot of very good music and we hope that many many people will come out and hear just how great our young people are. We know that this takes a lot of preparation, a lot of practicing and that keeps a lot of our young people on the straight and narrow when they have these other interests so that is basically what we’ll be having, right at this moment we have a display of digital art done by the children this summer as part of a course that we gave here and that’s on display next week when of course we will be putting up Don Hector’s pictures.”
