HANDS BELIZE AIDS STANN CREEK STUDENTS

September 08, 2006

HANDS Belize Foundation has once again come to the aid of students of the Stann Creek District. A cheque was handed over yesterday and today we spoke to the Chairman of HANDS Belize Foundation Fred Cabral.

Fred Cabral, HANDS Chairman

“HANDS delivered cheques to the primary and secondary level educational system. The teachers that were present, both the secondary and primary received their cheques yesterday and most of the funds was given over to them as soon as the other ones come in I guess we will give them their registration fees. The whole idea is to help the parents who could not have met that fee. We made an agreement within ourself that we would try to alleviate poverty and do the best we can which we raised those fees internationally and nationally. We are looking forward to reaching our goal of paying the entire amount shortly. The constituency of Stann Creek West is approximately fifteen thousand people. When HANDS took over this task of the registration fee and looking at what ways would be more beneficial to the entire educational system we saw that was the registration fee. When HANDS moved in it was like five thousand enrolled, we now have like over eight thousand enrolled and it is growing so we are putting back a lot of kids into school.”

Cabral says it is necessary for residents of the area to become involved in the Foundation.

Fred Cabral, HANDS Chairman

“I would just like to encourage the constituency to please join up and become members of HANDS and the reason for that is that we have better statistics on the child or on the students, let’s say we have a problem one day where a child becomes sick or needs some attention anyway, cause we are also running a medical program, the more statistics we have on parents and on children is the reason for the membership drive and the enrollment of having the information on the students and the parents.”

Fred Cabral, Chairman of HANDS Foundation.  The initiative is the brainchild of Area Representative, Rodwell Ferguson and is funded by local and international investors.
