BELIZEAN ARTIST TALKS ABOUT HIS WORKS

October 04, 2006

Love News today spoke with Belizean artist Edwin Colon. Colon who is originally from Punta Gorda now resides in Chicago, U-S-A. Colon spoke to us of works he has done over the years.

Edwin Colon:

“I did a documentary called “Garifuna Pride: The Legacy” for a class thesis, everybody likes it so far. And I got to work with numerous film makers here in Chicago and parts of the US. We’ve done some music videos and short films; you know student films and so forth. And eventually, I broke ground and started my own film company called Zante films. And the process of that is not only to go through with my career goals. Down the road, eventually, I’d like to see a permanent Belize cinema industry established.”

Colon said most of his work is based on Belize as a subject,. He said one of his most successful endeavors so far has been collaboration with Doctor Ludwig Palacio.

Edwin Colon:

“Now we’re in crew production, we’re close enough to start filming in Belize however we’re taking time off to work on the legal issues, getting our attorneys to make sure that everything are well put together, in other word to make our investors happy. We’re also still securing final investors for the film as well. This specific project has gotten a lot of interest from major players in the film industry in Hollywood, in Chicago and in the UK. So I believe that when that time comes it’s going to make a huge investment for the country of Belize.”

Colon is now working on Fahrenheit Belize.

Edwin Colon:

“It’s based on a screenplay that I wrote but its also based on facts that happened in our country back home in Belize. It not a political film, you know people will try to make it seem like it’s the same as Fahrenheit 911 that they made out there. It’s quite different however it does show the struggles of our Belizean citizens to adapt in ways that the government is leading them and the whole idea behind this is that we want the young people to all realize that the Government will one day retire and its up to us to take the reign and decide if we want to continue in the same fashion that our leaders are taking or if we want to take a new approach. And so Fahrenheit Belize is going to look at different sides of the history regarding the entire crisis that have happened and all the political history that Belize has been through.”
