COURT NEWS

October 04, 2006

31 year old Ken Lynden Young, a car dealer of a Banak Street address appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord where he was charged with one count of manslaughter by negligence, one count of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault. The two manslaughter charges are against Young’s common law wife Woman Police Constable Myrna Rachel Lopez while the aggravated assault charges are against Robert Dominguez and Andrew Armstrong. The charges arose out of an incident at a function in Grace Bank Village on October 1 in which there was an altercation resulting in W-P-C Lopez being shot. Yesterday in court Defense Attorney Richard Dickie Bradley said the prosecution does not want to offer Young bail when witnesses have said Young was defending W-P-C Lopez. He also requested that Young be taken to his doctor since he suffers from memory problems and is being treated by Doctor Cervantes since May of this year.

Three men had the charges against them abandoned today, Arthur Young who was accused of the murder of Jose Chavarria on August 2, 2002. The Crown decided to abandon the case against Young. Chavarria was shot to death on August 2, 2002. At the time of the incident Young fled to the United States. The Crown also abandoned the charges of attempted murder against 25 year old Arden Smith Robinson who was accused of attempting to kill Mervin Underwood and others who were inside a wooden house on Queen Charlotte Street on March 4, 2005. The third man to see the charges abandoned was 18 year old Ron Lee Petillo of a Mahogany Street Extension address. Petillo was charged for the murder of Dennis “Ticky” Gladden on January 10, 2006.

48 year old Steven Warren yesterday appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord where he was charged for theft. Warren pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody. The charges were brought against Warren after 43 year old Sergio Garcia reported to Police that he was inside Raul’s Rose Garden when a security guard asked him to move his vehicle. Garcia said he gave the security guard the keys. Garcia said when he came out of the establishment he noticed that seven thousand two hundred dollars that was inside his vehicle was missing.

Love News checked this morning with Attorney Lionel Welch to find out the latest with the application for a committal for the Board of Directors for B-T-L.  Welch told us that he has just about completed gathering affidavits from relevant individuals about the B-T-L Annual General Meeting held last week Monday night at the Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel.  However, he has not yet filed the application in the Supreme Court because he is now awaiting word from those who have retained his services, the attorneys for Jeffrey Prosser’s Innovative Communications Company.
