November 02, 2006
The Belize Defense Force will have a new intake of 62 new soldiers joining its ranks. Force Adjutant, Major Ganey Dortch, says the intake follows weeks of intense training. Major Ganey Dortch “Eight members of recruit intake number 48 attended on the 18 of June 2006 and under went nineteen weeks of intense training. The recruits were thought how to operate under combat conditions jungle tactics and survival training complemented conventional combat tactics and exercise. Basically they have proven that they have the skills and ability required to join as a member of the Belize Defense Force.” Dortch explained that the intake does not represent an expansion of the B-D-F, but merely a move to maintain its full complement. At the same time of the intake, soldiers, including Sergeant Ramon Aguilar, who went missing for nine days and who successfully completed the international jungle warfare survival course will also receive certificates, says Dortch. Major Ganey Dortch: “Well it’s basically a course design by the BDF to meet its jungle needs. We have also extended this course to foreign nationals and we have on board this course students from the Taiwan Arm Forces, students from the Jamaican Arm Forces and students from the Salvadorian Arm Forces.” B-D-F Force Adjutant, Major Ganey Dortch.
