November 03, 2006
The National Emergency Management Organization has made sizable donations to needy people in the Port Loyola area of Belize City. Port Loyola businessman, Oscar Rosado told Love News that the donation came about after he made an appeal. Oscar Rosado: “I had approached NEMO earlier last month I think it was because we had some fire victims namely Miss Daphine Thompson from Ceasar Ridge Road. And I was assisted with some new clothing for her and bedding and from those come extra boxes of clothing to assist the very needy in Port Loyola and now Miss Yasmin Shoman is at NEMO and she does not like too much credit but I must give her credit for those three queen size beds that we got. We even got one for an elderly person on the Boulevard he is very much grateful and he told me to pleas thank Miss Shoman also and Mr. Lovell at NEMO for that donation because he was really in need of a bed. Last week we did a turkey dinner sale a hundred and thirty five tickets and the proceeds from that we gave to the fire victims. We bought all her steel so that she can out the cement roof top on her house and she is only one we have a lot and we can only little by little and we are asking for little donations but right now the business community I am sure is bombarded so we have to do things on our own.” Rosado, who is the P-U-P Port Loyola Standard Bearer, also calls on Government to do its part in helping Port Loyola residents. Oscar Rosado: “Whatever we are giving the needs are just greater like landfill, we just had a turkey dinner last week Friday. We are doing private fund raisers with our political committee and that’s the way we are doing it right now. We are not getting any other type of assistance from Government or anywhere else. I have a business and I said the only way we could do this is to try and open up something with dinner sales every two weeks to raise funds but we are still putting out the request for Government to please put some more into south side, south side really need it. It’s a very difficult area, Port Loyola the poorest area the one with the most demands so I am also going to put my pressure on the Government of Belize definitely because we need more assistance with that. People aren’t eating people are living in swamps we need to address these issues and really alleviate and reduce poverty if that’s what we are going to talk about and I am going to make sure and push that we do that.” Rosado says the next fundraiser to help his fellow constituents will be next weekend.
