WTO GRANTS A FIVE YEAR RENEWAL TO THE WAIVER FOR CARIBAN

The World Trade Organization has granted a five year renewal to the W-T-O waiver for the Commonwealth Caribbean Countries Tariff, CARIBCAN. The program provides for duty free access to the Canadian market for most products originating in 18 Commonwealth Caribbean countries and territories. A release from the Canadian Embassy says that relations between Belize and Canada have been growing steadily.According to the release, in 2006 Canada – Belize trade figures showed an estimated 41 percent increase when compared to 2005.Canadian investment in Belize is estimated at over 130 million U-S dollars and is focused in energy, banking, mining and forestry.
