PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TO COMPETE IN SOCIAL STUDIES QUIZ

January 23, 2007

Standards four, five and six students from all over the country will compete in the National Social Studies Quiz tomorrow. The quiz is one of the activities planned as part of Tourism Awareness Week organized by the Belize Tourism Board.  B-T-B’s Registrar of Hotels Lloyd Enriquez says that to be in the industry one has to know the country. Enriquez tells us more about the Quiz.

Lloyd Enriquez

“Over the past few months we have been having eliminations at the districts and zone levels so a first and a second place person from each district will be competing in our Social Studies Quiz. And the purpose for the Social Studies Quiz is really to sensitize our students so that they can learn and to appreciate the value of our country. It will cover various topics such as Geography, Culture, and History what happened in our past to get us where we are today as a people as a nation. There are some questions on protected areas, Geographical areas the different types of geographical topography that we have here in Belize, our cultural groups. There are three sections there are going to be three elimination rounds and a final round where there will be some reserve questions, the first three set of questions the students would have had a question bank from which they would have had the opportunity to prepare and the reserve questions are new questions but generally along the same topic. If you are going to be in the business of Tourism you need to know your country so that is the main thrust of the Social Studies Quiz.”

Lloyd Enriquez, Registrar of Hotels at the Belize Tourism Board. The quiz will take place tomorrow at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts beginning at 9:30 am. The winner will receive a fully loaded computer and printer from the Protected Areas Conservation Trust.
