REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF COMMONWEALTH YOUTH PROGRAMME ON ONE WEEK VISIT

Regional Director of the Commonwealth Youth Program, Henry Charles is on a one week visit to Belize.During the course of the week Charles is scheduled to meet with secondary and tertiary level students and youths form several youth organizations in Belize. Youth for the Future Director Linsford Castillo tells us about the visit.

Linsford Castillo: Director-Youth for the Future

“Mr. Charles is on a familiarization visit for the most part, where as the Regional Director he is visiting all member state within the Caribbean of which Belize is one, to examine and to look at the youth development strategies that are implemented by each country. So he is on his way from Jamaica now to Belize to spend this week with us getting himself more familiarized and to see where the Commonwealth Youth Programme could assist countries like Belize in its youth development effort. So in a nut shell he is here on a familiarization tour as well as an examination of the in particularly the Youth for the Future Programme of which have caught the region’s attention and to see how the work that we are doing here at Youth for the Future could be adopted in other Commonwealth Caribbean Countries.”

Castillo says that while in Belize Charles will address several issues with young people.

“His message to the young person is to highlight the Commonwealth value of which I must say the Youth for the Future Programme has been birthed from. In terms of showing young people the need to become engaged in the National development of the country. To challenge them and to encourage them to use their potential in advancing the cause of young persons, to highlight the need of our strategic direction to as far as the youth development is concerned as well as to see how the Youth for the Future Programme as well as the overall youth strategy could be improved, so those are more or less some of the issues I expect him to address while he is here.”
