BELIZE CITY MAN DETAINED AFTER ALLEDGEDLY ATTACKING POLICE WITH KNIKE

Belize City Police have detained 22-year-old Oscar Videz after he allegedly attacked Police Officers with a large kitchen knife. Sometime around 10 o’clock this morning, Police responded to a call for help from a resident of Curl Thompson Street near Jane Usher Blvd.  When Police arrived at the house the complainant told Police that her son was threatening to kill himself and had attacked her with a knife and had cut the gas hose leading to the stove. Police say they confronted the man near the door to the house and attempted to speak with him. The suspect however, pulled out a large knife and ran menacingly toward the Police and one of the officers fired a single shot that caught suspect in the right ankle. Videz who apparently had been having domestic problems had been threatening suicide. Police were able to subdue the suspect and transport him to the K-H-M-H where he remains under Police guard in a stable condition.
