Nigeria has agreed to send 29 new technical aids and volunteers to Belize.Under the terms of a Bi-lateral Agreement between the two governments, Nigeria will continue to provide technical assistance to Belize. Signing on behalf of Belize was Minister of Health Jose Coye, while Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Belize, Chief Olufolajimi Akintola who is based in Jamaica signed on behalf of Nigeria. 27 of the volunteers will serve in Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Anesthesiology, Medical Laboratory, Radiography, and Health Care.They will be attached to the Health Ministry’s four regional hospitals.Two of them will be attached to the Ministry of Natural Resources.Their term of office will be for two years.While in Belize, the Government of Nigeria will pay the volunteers’ stipends and the Belize government will be responsible to provide them with housing and medical attention.Belize and Nigeria established diplomatic ties on April 19, 1982.The technical assistance corps between the two countries began in 1991 with five volunteers.
