The Belize City garbage dump at mile three on the Western Highway will soon be closed down. Mayor Zenaida Moya says work to open a temporary dump site is already underway. Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya “Well I spoke to the Deputy Mayor and I ask when will that site be available to the back that garbage can start going there, he said within a week, so we will be able to have people go directly to that knew site and we will see some alleviation to that problem. We were informed that they will close up that site. The Ministry of Works, I believe the Deputy has spoken to the Ministry of Works and they will be dealing with that aspect.” Marion Ali: Love FM “So the new area which is immediately behind which I will imagine is mile three?” Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya “A little bit after, because it’s the Solid Waste Management Project that will be kicking in.” Marion Ali: Love FM “How long will that facility be able to accommodate the masses of refuse that Belize City produces?” Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya “Well that particular site is not there for the long haul that will only be initially they are hoping that after a couple months that the facility will be completed, that will only be a transfer station and there after they will be able to take the garbage. The Deputy he represents us in those meetings, e has informed that by six months and he sits in that meeting that the operations should be in place and that everything should be ok.” Mayor Moya said the Belize City Council is preparing to make more of its services more accessible to the public. She said one of these is with the traffic Department’s driver’s license. Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya "We want to ensure that people can start to get there own, for example if they want there drivers licenses that they can move from being in line to being online. So that is something we are still working on, but we will have to ensure that we input all these modules so that is something that has not been accomplished fully but it is on its way." Belize City Mayor, Zenaida Moya.
