NEW HORIZON EXERCISE TO BE HELD IN BELIZE

Belize to host the exercise New Horizon, Force Adjutant of the Belize Defense Force Captain Lionel Cuthkelvin is directly responsible for public affairs.He says like previous years the exercise will involve the building of new classrooms in rural Belize.

“Earlier if you can recall we had a visit by General Spears who is the Deputy Commander U-S South Com and he visited Belize to take a look at the different areas that they will be conducting the exercise New Horizon. The American Engineers are working along side the Belize Defense Force Engineers and they will be constructing four classroom buildings in the villages of Trial Farm, Hattieville, Carmelita and Crooked Tree. Thursday morning at ten hundred hours we are going to have the official opening ceremony at the Government School in Trial Farm Village thereafter that are going to start the construction in these four villages.”

Captain Cuthkelvin says the exercise does much more than constructing buildings.

“Apart from New Horizon which is the construction of the classroom buildings, they are going to have some dental and medical care that they will be providing to the villagers of those areas and the town of Orange Walk so they will have people providing medical attention as well. And I think the program in Orange Walk itself at the sporting complex will commence on the twelfth of this month which is next week Monday. It’s a program that started I think back in 1998 and it’s conducted throughout the Central American Region, I think the last one held in Belize was in 1994. But they do these types of construction and not only schools they also build clinics and latrines and stuff like that to the different countries in Central America, I think they have just recently done one in Guatemala and now they are doing this one here in Belize.”
