March 23, 2007
A flight safety seminar is underway in Belize City. The Department of Civil Aviation is hosting the two-day seminar at the Princess Hotel and Casino. The seminar is being conducted by the COCESNA Flight Safety Agency and the United States Federal Aviation Administration. Operations Officer for Flight Standards at the Department of Civil Aviation, Nigel Carter, gives us the details. Nigel Carter, Civil Aviation Department “The seminar is being held with the intent of disseminating to the general aviation public information on aviation regulation along with its accompanying surveillance program. We also intend to disseminate safety factors such as Q-on performance aeronautical decision making. We are also planning on the introduction a safety management system which will allow for a more proactive safety culture in aviation.” Carter says this seminar is taking place since December last year. Belize signed an agreement, in which Belize must conform to the Safety Standards and Recommendations contained in the Annexes of the Convention on International Civil Aviation. Nigel Carter, Civil Aviation “Back in December during international aviation day the department explained that it would be conducting several safety seminars along with upgrade to the air navigation infrastructure. This safety seminar is part of our commitment to compliance with the Chicago convention which guides international civil aviation.” Operations Officer for Flight Standards at the Department of Civil Aviation, Nigel Carter. The seminar ends tomorrow.
