MISS BELIZE UNIVERSE PREPARES FOR INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT

Pageants Belize has planned another fund-raiser to help Miss Belize Universe, Maria Jeffrey prepare for her international pageant.  Executive Director of Pageants Belize, Margaret Johnson, says Saturday night’s modeling and fashion show is not just any ordinary show.

“Pageants Belize is putting on the finals for the Miss Belize Top International Model Competition. We had our preliminary in December of ‘06 and so this is the finals now. So, ten beautiful young ladies from Belize will be competing. It’s a modeling competition, not a beauty show, so you can expect a lot more from these girls. And we also have Ms. Belize Universe, who will be previewing certain items from her wardrobe for the Ms. Universe Pageant. So, that’s what will be happening at the Princess Hotel and Casino this Saturday. We have choreographed routines – the girls do not just walk up and down and show their outfits. There are a lot of things that they do. There’s a live, on-stage photo shoot, which means that if you go to photo studio and you see a young taking photographs as a model, she’ll be in there with a photographer. So, each one of the girls has to a presentation to the audience as if though they don’t even exist – it’s just them and the camera.”

Johnson adds that the international show will not only feature adults.

“It’s going to be at the Princess Hotel and Casino. It’s only fifteen and twenty dollars. And it’s going to be at eight o’clock. When I say eight o’clock, usually I mean eight o’clock but ah, I understand that we need to put seven thirty to make eight. And we are trying to make it for eight o’clock because we are video-taping it and we would like for people to be seated to be able to see the show. The first round of, the competition, we provided all the outfits for them. So they only had to concentrate on their form and how they present themselves in terms of international representation for modeling. Now, this time, what they do is that they had to gone through and prepared their own designs. So, the outfits that you will be seeing this Saturday night, will be outfits that the girls all designed by themselves or maybe they’ve gotten assistance from some other person other than myself.  I think what they have done, is that they have taken the information that they have got form us in what we have presented in the first show, and take that and be able to reconstruct things in their own way and their sense of style. Eh, and of course, we have the little girls. We have eight little girls who actually are what you call the show-stealers. And they’re again designed to up-stage the girls because this time, I get the designs for them. So, it should be pretty interesting competitions. We have a guest boy-group from the St. John’s Pageant showed just recently. It’s called a, B-Wood Massive and they will be one of the entertainers for the evening event.”
