NELMA MORTIS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF NCFC

Nelma Mortis is the new Executive Director of the National Committee for Families and Children. Love News spoke with Mortis who told us at this time she is getting acquainted with the administrative aspect of the organization. She said after that is completed she hopes to merge her vision with the organization’s goal.

“What I need to do is to know what programs are basically in place, which I am going through that process right now. Some of the things that I have in the forefront of my mind. I believe that Belize in and of itself there is a lot of children out there with mental issues that we really need to be address. I am also thinking heavily about the juvenile delinquency and those are some of the things that I am going to play around with but at the same time I need to again align myself with whatever is already in place here at NCFC.” 

We asked Mortis what is it that she as an individual brings to the organization.

“The features on the cover have picturesque little islands in the Stann Creek village called Caribol Caye which many people may not be aware of but it is the site of the Smithsonian Marine research lab which is stationed here in Belize, where all aspects of our environment have been studied and documented.  It’s a beautiful cover we’ve had very positive feedback on that.  Inside as well Belize’s beauty, diversity and our dynamic culture are reflected in what we call the tourism pages which contain among other things a map of Belize, history of Belize, things to know about our country and other interesting and informative tidbits about Belize. So this telephone directory is going to be used for many different reasons I can assure you of that.”

Nelma Mortis Executive Director of the National Committee for Families and Children. Mortis replaces Judith Alpuche who held the post since 2001.Shanda Williams is the new programme coordinator replacing John Flowers.Both Judith Alpuche and John Flowers are now programme officers with UNICEF.
