VISION INSPIRED BY THE PEOPLE TO START THEIR CAMPAIGN

The People’s United Party and the United Democratic Party have both began their campaign leading up to the next general elections. Today Love news spoke with Chairman of the Vision Inspired by the People Paul Morgan to find out what are the V-I-P’s plans.

“The VIP has been very active.As you know,we have a very young party.The VIP is only about eighteen months old and we’re actively recruiting the best people that we can find in Belize to bring in this harvest,as I put it.We are asking for people to come forward,to work with us in terms of being apart of committees  or even for some constituencies to run.So in that light,we are organizing a series of public meetings right now.We are preparing ourselves to go into the streets to meet people,to call communities together for us to discuss some of the issues that will be facing the people come election time.The biggest thing with the VIP right now is organization.We want to get out there,talk to communities in the form of public meetings.”

Morgan said it is their hope to take the meetings countrywide.

“We want to go into as many communities as possible.We want these to be public.Perhaps we’ll be drawing up groups of villages that are closer together.We might invite two or three villages but yes we will want to go countrywide,regardless if we have candidates in those places or not because,everybody has to get the message of the VIP.Perhaps in one of our meetings we might be picking up people who have never heard but want to go in that direction.”

Morgan said their main message is that there is the need for change within the political system.

“That message is a direction,the direction that we in Belize must go.We must reform Belize in terms of balancing the power of Cabinet.Cabinet is too powerful.We have been given a lot of smoke screens by the political parties,all kinds of little issues.But when you think about it,the fact remains that if we do not balance the power of Cabinet,then Belize will have lost the whole election regardless of which part gets in there.We need to make sure that the minister’s disgression isn’t going as rampant as it is right now.The principal cause of corruption and the decay in our system,it is because the Cabinet is too powerful,and none of the political parties right now are willing to face that fact.All of them want to enjoy that feast while they’re in there.The VIPs will bring it to the people fair and square certain terms.Cabinet must be corralled and Cabinet must be setup to serve people only,not themselves.”
