August 09, 2007
Thirty-eight students from across the country will benefit from scholarships issued by the Belize Social Security Board. Today, Social Security held its annual scholarship award ceremonies in Belmopan. The ceremonies were held to recognize candidates who were successful in meeting the scholarship requirements placed by Social Security’s Management and staff of the student grants program. Fifteen students were awarded scholarships to high school, seventeen were awarded scholarships in the associate’s degree program, and six candidates received scholarships in the bachelor’s program. The Belize Social Security scholarship program has been in place since 2002. In 2005, it extended to include the sixth form category, and this year, it expanded even further to include the bachelor’s program. Social security’s bachelor’s degree scholarships cater to social work, tourism management, natural resources management, nursing, and information technology. Guest speaker at the event was chief education officer, Maud Hyde.
