WINNER OF THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS IS KENNYN GLADDEN AND THE NEW CREATION BAND

The winner of the Battle of the Bands competition held over the weekend is Kenny Gladden and the New Creation Band. According to public relations officer for the Belize City Council, Kenny Morgan the show was spectacular.   

Kenny Morgan, Public relation officer for the Belize City Council:

“The results of the Battle of the Bands competition which was sponsored in a major way by Belikin along with trophies donated by Jex trophies of New York and St. George’s Caye the Society and the results are as follows:3^rd place was Lee La Vernon and the Baymen’s Clan and actually,Lee La’s back up group actually included some members of the New Creation Band,which was allowed according to the competition.In 2^nd place was Titiman Flores with his Punta Rockers and in 1^st place,Kenny Gladden and the New Creation Band was the overwhelming favorite of both the crowd and the judges choice.There was a special Mayor’s Choice Award was given to a young gospel group called Young Stars and they were so very impressive with their patriotic entry.The song that they performed as their patriotic entry that they did,was awarded the Mayor’s Choice award at which they received a special cash prize as well as a gift package courtesy of the mayor and Bowen and Bowen and Belikin as our three sponsors for the Battle of the Band competition.” 

Morgan says the winning song was well received by the public.

“It was a song that talks about the Battle of St. George’s Caye and the fact that after all these many years,Belize is independent and free and it’s because of the perseverance of our fore fathers who fought to retain possession of the territory that we are here today.And it was a song that was very well received by the judges and the audience alike.As a matter of fact I would go as far as to say,that is the song that got the best reception from the public and the entire audience was jumping and waving their flags and dancing to the song.Everybody was basically satisfied that the persons who won the prizes were quite deserving of the awards that they got.” 

Another event this past weekend that took place at the Belize City Council Multi- culture Fair was the Fayya –Haat Bake Off.

“The Fayya Haat Cook Off was won by Ras Rueben from the Sons of Negroes and actually two of the members of the Sons of Negroes placed first and third and the only female entrant and her name was Julie and she placed second.But it was Ras Rueben from the Sons of Negroes who came out at the winner.Benjamin came in third,but the only female entrant came in second and the Sons of Negroes took first and third place in the Fayya Haat Bake Off.That was sponsored and prizes were provided by Grace Kennedy Belize Limited and ADM Belize Mills.”
