BANK ACCOUNT OPENED TO ASSIST FAMILIES IN NICARAGUA AFFECTED BY HURRICANE FELIX

September 11, 2007

The Honorary Consul of Nicaragua in Belize has opened a bank account to assist Nicaraguans affected by Hurricane Felix.Love News spoke this morning with Honorary Consul of Nicaragua in Belize Robert Usher.

Robert Usher, Honorary Consul of Nicaragua in Belize:

“The Nicaraguan Embassy and the Ambassador Nora Gordon and the Honorary Consul which is myself, they have opened an account at Scotia Bank on behalf of the people from Puerto Cabezas in the Northeast coast of Nicaragua, who were affected by Hurricane Felix. The account number is 9-1-3-5-6-7-1.It’s in the name of the Nicaraguan Hurricane Relief Fund and it’s at the bank of Nova Scotia. We’re asking all and they’re over 50,000 people who are homeless and I understand that those numbers keep increasing on a daily basis as they go into the interior and the rivers and they find more and more of the people who have been washed away, their homes and their boats.”

Usher says they are encouraging all Nicaraguans living in Belize and Belizeans as well to make their contribution to account number 9-1-3-5-6-7-1 at the Bank of Nova Scotia.  Usher said that until now they only know about one Belizean family that lives in the area where the hurricane made landfall.

Robert Usher, Honorary Consul of Nicaragua in Belize:

“Well we know that there are Belizean families that live there, like the Monroe family,he has eight kids and I think up to Sunday and we have not heard anything from him so we really don’t know what it is.But as soon as communication gets back into the area, then we will have a better idea of what the status is in the north.”
