Belize City Police have arrested Michael Anderson and Kimberly Gomez and charged them with keeping unlicensed ammunition. Major crimes personnel conducted a search at the home of Anderson and Gomez on Louise Bevans Street which resulted in the discovery of five point 38 live rounds of ammunition. 27-year-old Gregory Martinez who was charged with the murder of Police Corporal Benedicto Coy was acquitted yesterday. The jury deliberated for about three hours before it arrived at its verdict. Corporal Coy was fatally stabbed in his chest around 6:30 pm on Christmas Eve 2005 in front of Lion King Club on King Street. The two eyewitnesses Police Constable Anibal Castellanos and the deceased son Wallace Coy testified that they saw Martinez stab the deceased. Martinez took the witness stand and gave an alibi testimony. He said that at the time of the incident he was at his mother-in-law’s house with his girlfriend. The two corroborated Martinez’ testimony. Martinez was represented by attorney Michael Peyrifitte. Senior Crown Counsel Merlene Moody represented the prosecution. The trial judge was Justice John Gonzalez. 47-year-old Elliott Lambey pleaded guilty to theft yesterday and was spared a custodial sentence. Lambey was fined one thousand dollars and was given until October 11 to pay the fine. If he does not pay the fine Lambey will serve one year in prison. The incident occurred around 10-20 Sunday September 9 at Brodie’s Store. Lambey stole 17 silver plated spoons each valued at two dollars ninety five cents from a shelf in the store. A sales clerk saw Lambey when he put some spoons in his pants pocket and alerted the security guard. Lambey was detained and searched. The spoons were found in his pants pocket. A man who allegedly stole money from inside a car he was washing appeared in court yesterday. 37-year-old Derrick “Bubbles” Murillo was spared a prison sentence when he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty of theft. Instead of sending Murrillo to prison Magistrate Sharon Fraser gave him a suspended sentence of six months. This means Murrillo will serve the time if he is arrested for any offence. The incident occurred on March 11 on Bishop Street. Businesswoman Lesly Miranda had given Murrillo the job to wash her car and apparently he searched it and found 305 U-S dollars in a black purse that was hidden under the driver’s seat. Murrillo was not apprehended by police until March 29. When he appeared in court the prosecution objected to bail because he owed the court money. The objection was upheld by the Magistrate and Murrillo was sent to prison where he spent almost six months.
