TRUCK DRIVER INVOLVED IN FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT DETAINED,NO CHARGES AS YET

The Commissioner of Police on behalf of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Police Department has expressed his sincere condolences to Minister Ralph Fonseca, other family members and friends of Ralph Fonseca Junior for his tragic death. Fonseca Junior and Ralph Balderamos died as a result of a traffic accident on the Northern Highway. Police reports are around four-20 yesterday afternoon 33-year-old Alberto Chan of Nuevo San Juan Village in the Orange Walk District was driving a truck which was towing a 15 foot trailer loaded with steel rods when between miles 51 and 52 on the Northern Highway the trailer got unhitched from the truck and collided into a black four door Toyota Prado which was traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the Prado, Ralph Balderamos and front seat passenger Ralph Fonseca Junior both received body injuries and died on the spot. The two passengers in the back seat 34-year-old Galdane Stevenson of a Rio Bravo Crescent Street address in Belize City and 41-year-old Eugene Webster of Belama Area also in Belize City received injuries. Stevenson received injuries to his face and head while Webster received injuries to both hands and feet. Both are presently admitted to ward at the Northern Regional Hospital in stable condition. Alberto Chan who was unhurt is detained pending the outcome of police investigations. Police say they are consulting with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
