September 14, 2007
The annual school children’s rally was held this morning in Belize City. Master of ceremonies was Aaron Stock who was the third top performer in the Primary School Examination for this year. Opening remarks were delivered by the second top performer in the P-S-E Goolue Xie. Goolue Xie,P-S-E second top performer: “This examination gives insight into the performance of the Belizean students, teachers, and education system. As a successful candidate of the 2007 P-S-E,I would like to take the time to encourage students to recognize how important it is to pay attention in class, take notes, studying and doing homework.I know,I know it’s hard, but if you take the time and do that and put your mind to it,you can become successful.” The special remarks were delivered by this year’s top performer in the P-S-E Xux Ex Novelo who said they are celebrating both the history and future of Belize. Xux Ex Novelo, P-S-E top performer: “We celebrate the historical Battle of St. George’s Caye, that took place in 1798,and our Independence that occurred in 1981.We also honor ourselves, the youths of Belize, who represent Belize’s best hope for the future.Yes,if Belize is to be ‘Fu All Ah We’,then we must become independent, strong, and free as we mature.I want to share with you my secret to success in this year’s P-S-E and in everything I do.Anything is possible if you believe in yourself and work hard to achieve it.And believe me,you wont’ succeed if you ignore the work part.Remember,Jesus said, ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened. You must first do your part if you are to receive, find or have the door opened.” Minister of Education Francis Fonseca addressed the almost three thousand students at the rally. Hon. Francis Fonseca,Minister of Education: “My message is very simple,we must love Belize. All of you,the young people here today, all of us must believe in Belize and we must love Belize. If we do not love Belize,if we do not believe in Belize,no one else will. And so I encourage you as we celebrate during this September season,as we celebrate the national day,as we celebrate our independence,as we talk about Belize being independent, strong and free, and as we talk about Belize being ‘Fu All Ah We’,we have to give meaning to all of that. And the only way for us to give meaning to all of that is for all of us in this room, especially the young people in our schools today.Over 64,000 primary school students in our schools today, for them to understand what we mean by an independent, strong, and free Belize, for you to understand what it means for Belize to be ‘Fu All Ah We’.It’s not only a slogan,it must be a way of life, and so I urge you my friends as we celebrate,to love Belzie and believe in Belize and do your part to make Belize a better place.” This morning’s rally had the participation of students who performed cultural dances as well as performances by Ernestine Carballo and Joe Lawrence.
