MISS BELIZE PAGEANT OF DISTINCTION TAKES PLACE TOMORROW

The Miss Belize pageant will be held this weekend in Belize City.Nine young ladies from across the country are vying for the prestigious title to represent Belize internationally.Margaret Johnson is the National Director for Miss Belize and told us that this year the audience can expect more than last year’s show. 

Margaret Johnson,National Director for Miss Belize Pageant:

“I always get excited about this. Miss Belize this year is more fantastic,last year was fantastic,this year,go there expecting more because we really tried to cover every area that we’ve gotten constructive criticism.Expect two swimsuit changes,expect fashion,expect excitement,expect things that you would see with the costumes.We’ve changed everything for this year.” 

Johnson said last weekend the Miss Belize swim suit and fashion show was held where a winner was selected.However, none of the scores will affect the contestants in this weekend for the pageant.

“We had a competition on Saturday September 8^th and we had a winner.However,the scores from there does not go over to the finals.So all the girls at the finals are even.There is nobody superseding anybody.Today we have the interview with the judges,so at ten o’clock today,everybody will be meeting with the judges and that score will go towards the finals.The audience should expect to see the girls backstage at the interview this year for the first time.”  

Love News asked Johnson how the preparations are coming just one day before the pageant and she said the girls are intense in their practices.

“Intense,intense like a boot camp because we had lost about five or six days from the two hurricanes plus the flood so we have to double up on everything because we did not want to compromise the performance and the standards of what we’ve been trying to do over the past year and a half.The girls have really done a fantastic job.The crown is not promised to anybody – you have to earn it.So if you come to Miss Belize expecting us to say well you have the crown,no we don’t do that.You’ve got to earn it and the judges decision is final.” 

Johnson also told us that whoever the winners are after tomorrow’s show, they surely will walk away with fantastic prizes.

“Prizes,we have definitely.At Miss Belize we always believe in a scholarship so we have to have a scholarship for our winner at the end of their reign.We have resort prizes,we have jewelry,we have trips to United States,face being featured in maganizes,complimentary magazines from the United States in beauty,beauty magazines like Glamour ,Avon gift packages,there’s a number of stuff,we have quite a bit,and we’re still adding as we’re going along because we expect some more to come in today out of New York.” 

The show will be held at the Belize City Center starting at eight p-m.
