TRIBUTE TO BELIZEAN PATRIOTS TO BE HELD TONIGHT

The annual Tribute to Belizean patriots takes place this evening in Belize City.  This year national honors will be conferred on nine Belizeans.  Chairperson of the National Honors and Awards Advisory Committee is Dolores Balderamos Garcia. 
           

Dolores Balderamos Garcia,Chairperson of the National Honors and Awards Advisory Committee:

“We have tried hard to put together something that will be meaningful and in which we can honor and really give praise to our Belizean patriots.I can tell you that there will be nine Belizeans honored,and that indeed among the honors will be actually an organization which is unprecedented and you will definitely want to look out for that.We can also tell you that this evening’s proceedings will be dedicated to the memory of the late Emory King who chaired the National Awards and Advisory Committee for many years,and who was instrumental in putting the Tribute to Belizean Patriots together.”

Garcia said the advisory committee has made an effort to acknowledge Belizeans from all walks of life and from different parts of the country.

Dolores Balderamos Garcia,Chairperson of the National Honors and Awards Advisory Committee:

“Well from various walks of life,we want to make sure that we honor people who have served.We will have persons not only from Belize City but also from other parts of the country,and definitely,these will be people who are well deserving according to the deliberation of our advisory committee.And then we sent our recommendation and the Prime Minister and Governor General has looked at it and so therefore we would want to be on hand to make sure that the honors are given.”

Garcia briefly explained how they went about selections the awardees for this year’s award and honors ceremony.

“We usually get recommendations or we would look around ourselves or we may talk to the Prime Minister as Head of Government.So it’s an involved process,and then we try to see in terms of the medals that are on hand,which usually,the office of the Prime Minister would be responsible for making sure that depending on the various categories of awards,the medals are also available.You know that we have various national awards,meritorious service awards,we do have Order of Belize and that kind of thing.”

This year the Tribute will be dedicated to the memory of the late Emory king who for many years chaired the National Honors and Awards Advisory Committee.  It was King who produced the Tribute to Belizean Patriots.  The event starts at seven this evening and will be broadcast live on Love F-M.
