October 23, 2007
Belize recently took part in two regional shows aimed at bringing more publicity to the country as it relates to tourism. Earlier this month we had a well defined presence at the annual Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) in Cozumel, Mexico. The Conference provided an avenue for cruise industry partners to come together and exchange information and ideas in the interactive workshops. These roundtable sessions remained interactive allowing for the opportunity to meet with cruise executives and other delegates with similar interests. The conference also highlighted topics in the area of Marketing, Shore Excursion/Operations and Purchasing. At this year’s FCCA conference, the Minister of Tourism met with Colin Murphy of Norwegian Cruise Lines and attended a CTO Meeting for Ministers and Commissioners, which was spearheaded by Vincent Vanderpool Wallace, Secretary General, and CTO. BTB representatives participated as delegates and met with cruise executives from Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Holland America and Princess Cruises to discuss issues such as itinerary planning and areas for co-operation and improvement in Belize. Representing Belize at the conference was Minister of Tourism, Godfrey Smith, Board Member Russell Longsworth, Director of Product Development, Anthony Mahler and Registrar of Hotels and Tourist Accommodations, Lloyd Enriquez, in partnership with a delegation encompassing numerous private sector representatives. Meanwhile in Cancun, Mexico, the 20th Annual Mexico Summit was held and Belize was represented at the Cancun Travel Mart 2007. The Cancun Travel Mart Mexico Summit is sponsored by the Cancun Hotel Association which provided the appropriate forum for tour operators, wholesalers, meeting planners and incentive organizers from over 16 countries to meet and discuss business opportunities aimed at growing tourism arrivals in the respective destinations who attended the event. Delegates of the Belize Tourism Board had the opportunity to meet with over 20 key industry partners and discuss the existing business opportunities available to Belize.
