THREE PRIMARY SCHOOLS WERE INAUGURATED BY PRIME MINISTER SAID MUSA TODAY

October 29, 2007

A primary school in Yo Creek Village, Orange Walk and a Vocational Training Center in Belize City were today inaugurated by Prime Minister Said Musa. The Primary School in Yo Creek represents a significant improvement to the current structure that has been in place since 1956. It will also benefit the community by serving as a hurricane shelter. In his inaugural speech in Yo Creek Prime Minister Musa expressed his appreciation on behalf of the people of Yo Creek to the Republic of Korea. Prime Minister Musa went on to say that the Republic of Korea is a glowing example of what can be accomplished when people and Government work together to achieve a common goal. Earlier this afternoon Prime Minister Musa also inaugurated the Central Vocational Training Center in Belize City. This Training Center is expected to assist in providing skilled training for single mothers and unemployed youth of the Pickstock area, while also providing day care to the community and will serve as a designated hurricane shelter if the need arises.  Prime Minister Musa in his address to the gathering stressed on the high priority that his Government places on the development of our human resources through education.  For his part, Ambassador Won Jong-Chan said, “this achievement has been the result of a lot of sweat and toil, combined with a priority-setting decision on the part of the Korean development strategists. We very much focused on developing human resources and human capital trough vocational training in particular, and education in general.”   The Primary School was built at a cost of $500,000 Belize dollars while the Vocational Training Center was built at a cost of $300,000 Belize dollars. Another $200,000 Belize dollars has been set aside for administration costs, as well as the purchasing of equipment for the Vocational Training Center in the Pickstock Division.
