A fire in Belize City yesterday has left two families homeless. Love News spoke with Assistant Fire Chief Ted Smith who gave us the details. Ted Smith,Assistant Fire Chief: “At 19:06 on October 20th, the fire department received a call of a fire on Black Orchid Street in the St. Martin’s area. On arrival we found two wooden structures on fire. The fire department immediately went into operation of extinguishing the fire. Both of these structures were occupied by different individuals. Initial investigations revealed that the fire started from the larger structure. One of these structures was 12 x 14 and the other was a 12 x 8. Initial investigations revealed that the fire did some extensive damage and the 12x14 was completely destroyed and the 12x8 was partially destroyed.” Smith said that he could not confirm if either of the two families was able to save any of their personal belongings. Smith offered some helpful advice. Ted Smith,Assistant Fire Chief: “I would like to encourage al of our Belizean brothers and sisters to exercise additional caution and care when leaving their homes and kindly ensure that electrical appliances or anything that can generate heat is in its proper placed and turned off and secured before leaving their home.” Assistant Fire Chief Ted Smith.
