The Belize Agricultural Health Authority is conducting a National Quarantine Training Campaign workshop in San Ignacio Cayo. The workshop is a yearly activity to ensure established and new quarantine inspectors are updated and provided with information that affects their responsibility in order to adapt to changing circumstances in the arena of international trade facilitation while safeguarding the Agricultural Health and Food Safety of the Nation. This is in line with BAHA’s ongoing educational campaign. The presenters will address current international sanitary and phytosanitary measures being taken in plant health, animal health, and food safety and their relation to the quarantine department as the implementing arm of BAHA at ports of entry, the regulations and procedures applied at port of entry to safeguard plant and animal health, human life from exotic pests and diseases, and the consequences of introduction to Belize. Participants of the workshop include officers of the quarantine department of BAHA who have the responsibility of serving as the first line of defense for Belize in safeguarding against the introduction of exotic disease, partner in development such as international and regional organizational for agricultural health, OIRSA, the customs department and pesticides control board. The workshop runs until Friday.
