CO-CHAIR OF THE COMMISSION ON INQUIRY, MERLENE BAILEY TO PRESENT HER REPORT TO THE PRIME MINISTER TODAY

October 30, 2007

Co-chair of the Commission of Inquiry into the affairs of the Development Finance Corporation, Merlene Bailey Martinez will formally present her report to Prime Minister Said Musa later today. A release from the National Trade Union Congress of Belize that appointed Bailey Martinez to the Commission, says she will be accompanied by second Vice President of the Union Mark Butler and General Secretary Dylan Reneau. The N-T-U-C-B says it looks forward with great expectation to the public release and posting on the Government website of the report. The Union says it hopes Prime Minister Musa will take just and decisive actions where required as he had previously committed to do since Belize and Belizeans deserve no less. The Union says the submission of the reports signal the culmination of the investigatory phase contemplated in clause nine of the joint G-O-B and N-T-U-C-B 11 point agreement of February 11, 2005 signed at the Central Bank of Belize. According to the agreement a copy of the Commissioner’s reports and the forensic auditor’s report is to be forwarded to the Director of Public prosecution for the prosecution of those responsible for wrongdoing at D-F-C and recovery of assets and losses phase to commence. The N-T-U-C-B says it fully expects the Prime Minister to initiate and conclude the corrective phase where the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry are acted upon or in some cases fully enacted into law. The Union concludes by thanking the commissioners and associates for their sacrifices and hard work including the memory of the late David Price Senior and his family.
