November 01, 2007
The Garinagu in Belize will be celebrating one hundred and seventy five years since their first arrival on the shores of Southern Belize this 19th of November. Activities leading up to that momentous day have begun with pageants and culture awareness days. This morning, Belizean artist Bredda David told Love News that one thing he wants to see more is the playing of their cultural music throughout the year. He also shared with us one of his newest songs to form part of an album he is putting together. Bredda David,Belizean artist: “The song ‘19th Di Come Again’ is a very strong song that talks about the Garifuna culture, pertaining to the 19th of November. I gave a nice brief history on the culture and now we’re singing about 19th of November which is a very effective part for the Afro- Belizeans. We have to try and get it to play as often as it could and we would hope and pray in cohesiveness that the media would support it and play it. So it’s our job to play it as much as possible. You can’t get too much Belizean music on the radio station that is our prime as Belizeans. Belizean music is not punta rock music, it’s not Congo music, it’s wide and so we need to play the Mayan music, the Latino music, everybody music as much as we could because that’s our music.” The name of the single is, 19th Di Come Again. Bredda David said that he plans to have his album complete by the end of the year. Radio stations interested in obtaining a copy of his song are asked to contact Bredda David.
