AZIZI HOY REPRESENTS BELIZE AT MISS MINI UNIVERSE PAGEANT

Belize will be represented at this year’s Miss Mini Universe Pageant which is being held in the Dominican Republic from November 15^th to the 26th. The pageant is held every year and is for children ages 6 to 12 years old. Margaret Johnson, Director of Pageants Belize told us more about the event.

Margaret Johnson, Director of Pageants Belize:

“Miss Mini Universe is a pageant that was presented to us out of the Dominican Republic and they asked us whether or not Belize would like to participate, and for me, I saw it as an opportunity for when we have the pageant, we were suppose to have a pageant called Little Miss Belize and then from that we were suppose to select that little girl to go. However, I’m not one to select a girl and hurry to send them off. I like to be able to train them and so we went looking for someone we thought might be very ready, very vocal, very intelligent, helpful to others and so we found Azizi. And Azizi is just like a little princess like from day one, we have pictures to prove it and she’s very, very intelligent and helpful to people besides herself.”

Representing Belize is eight year old Azizi Hoy of Hummingbird Elementary School. Love News spoke to Azizi this morning at her school.

“I feel honored to represent Belize because I’m doing it for my country.”

“Tell us a little bit more about what you will be doing in the talent competition.”

Azizi Hoy, representing Belize in Miss Mini Universe Pageant:

“I’ll be wearing the national costume with the Caribbean Sea and the second largest barrier reef. I’ll be sharing love, happiness, and joy to everyone.”

Johnson says that Hoy will be competing with approximately 27 other delegates from countries around the world and will proudly wear her national costume of the second largest Barrier Reef in the world: The Belize Barrier Reef. Hoy will compete in categories such as Mini Universe 2007, Mini World 2007, Mini Princess Universe Mini Princess World, Mini Elegance Universe, Mini Talent Universe and Mini Congeniality Universe. Johnson says that this is a good opportunity for the country to showoff the talents of young children and also prepares them to take part in the bigger competitions.

“We get to show off the talents of our kids and we hope that this turns into something where the kids feel they want to be apart of it and I have a mission too and I have to acknowledge that and that is to make sure that if we can get one child from now to start thinking of not putting tattoos on their body if they want to go up for Miss Belize, this is a way to get them stimulated to understand that if you put one of if you have one already, make sure it’s some place that you could put make up on it. If you can’t see it then what can you do to correct it. Well we’ll have Little Miss Belize in December and that new person will go on to train for a year to go to and represent the other year. So Azizi was mostly ready. This child is terrific and she’s very determined.”

A similar pageant will be held at the Belize City Center on December first.  The Little Miss Belize Pageant will see ten girls between the ages of 6 and 12 years old compete for the title. The girls will be judged on their fashion, talent, costumes and intelligence. Meanwhile, Johnson also updated us on Belize’s participation in the Miss Earth and Miss World pageants.

“Last night out of 120, Felicita Arzu was called out of China, and they have this thing at Miss World where you can compete for Fast Track Events, and so Felicita is competing in all the Fast Track Events, it’s five of them, to see if she can get into the semi-finals before the judges even have a decision to say okay yes you can go in. There will be five events and she’s competing in the talent right now, and last night she found out that she made the top 20 to compete for talent and now that may sound like an easy thing but it’s not easy, because it’s over 100 and plus girls, and she won a position to be able to compete to get Fast Track into Miss Talent, and if she wins Miss Talent then she’s in. Leilah competed and she did fantastic. She didn’t make the top 16, however, we felt that she came pretty close because of all the awards she has gotten. And right now they’re still voting on some things because I just found out recently that they nominated her for best evening gown. One of the top 8 delegates for best evening gown and so they’re doing a little competition after the competition kind of thing which is very important for us too. She won the People’s Choice Award and she won Top Environmentalist. There were five of them chosen and she was number 3. So we did pretty good for our first time.”
