December 28, 2007
A mother is asking the help of the general public in assisting her son who is desperately in need of medical attention. 6 year old Gabriel Sanchez was born premature and up to about two months ago was never hospitalized. Mother Bibiana Cho stopped by our news room today to make a plea for assistance. Bibiana Cho:
“Then we had to take him to the doctor to do some cat scans and run some other tests and then they recognized it was CP cerebral palsy. They said with the therapy he can try to do some thing for himself and then we got into this program with CARE Belize. They were very helpful. They came to my house and gave me a lot of help. My son’s speech is improving but he still won’t be able to walk, sit or feed himself and so we have to do everything for him. He is six years old now and he never got sick before. We went down to PG and he got sick there and the doctors told me due to other things with his sickness and that’s why he is very fragile. He caught pneumonia and fever and now he’s suffering from seizures. We stayed f4-5 days in Punta Gorda hospital but they couldn’t do much there. He needed to see the neurologist at the Belize City hospital. He is a very strong kid and I try to be strong for him as well.” Cho says that they her son has been hospitalized at the KHMH for the past fifteen days and will now need further medical attention in Merida or Guatemala. Bibiana Cho: “The doctors and the nurses are trying their best and they are very, very good with him but what happened at this present moment is that the seizure won’t leave him. The convulsion he says three times a day and two times at night and without the medical that is injected in his system, he doesn’t calm down and so we won’t be able to leave the hospital right now. They are advising us to try and get him over where they have methods and facilities where they can help him so that they can recognize the type of seizure he is suffering from because they won’t be able to tell us right now because they don’t have much equipment for that right now. But at least they said we need at least $2,000 to take him to Merida or Guatemala and so I’m asking the public to give assistance for a child. He can’t walk or sit and much less with this problem here, I can’t stand to see my son like that. He is not giving up. He’s very strong, he’s a fighter.” Anyone wishing to assist Bibiana Cho and her son Gabriel can call telephone number 6-0-5-8-7-8-1.
