SANTA ROSA FAMILIES TO BE RELOCATED TOMORROW

January 03, 2008

It’s a national issue that has kept many Belizeans up to date with the matter; the Santa Rosa community in the south of Belize.  When Love News spoke with Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in December last year, Amalia Mai told us the Organization of American States was constructing eight houses in Peten Guatemala where the Santa Rosa settlers were to be relocated.  At that time, it was hoped that the relocation would take place before the end of 2007; however, that did not happened as inclement weather continued to hamper the progress of the construction.  When Love News spoke with C-E-O Mai today, she confirmed to us that the eight families will be relocated tomorrow.  Mai said that the cost of relocation and all other expenses are being covered by the OAS.  The remaining twelve families will be relocated as soon as the construction of the other houses is complete.
