YOUTH BUSINESS TRUST BELIZE CELEBRATES ACCOMPLISHMENTS FO YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS

January 03, 2008

The Youth Business Trust Belize was officially launched in March of last year and since then ten new businesses owned and managed by youths has been established in Belize. This is something to celebrate and Youth Business Trust Belize will be celebrating next Wednesday the accomplishments of these young entrepreneurs. Dionne Miranda, Project Director told us more.

Dionne Miranda, Project Director:

“The gala is really in collaboration of all of the people who have been helping us so far and these are our mentors because our program includes a business mentor where we’ve had quite a bit of success getting people within the Belizean private sector to volunteer their time to mentor young persons and also partners who have provided us with funding or resources and guidance, including our patrons and board of directors who have been instrumental in getting us where we are and so we thought it’s best that we actually celebrate this moment with them. The gala is also doubling up as a fundraising and so we’ve also issued invitations who were’ asking whoever attends to give a $40 donation towards the event but however the event is going to be a fun one, like I said it’s a celebration so we’re going to have the steel band, jazz trio, we’ll have great food, great company and it’s going to be a lot of fun for anyone who wants to participate and so at the same time do something for a worthy cause for the young people of Belize and we’re celebrating them starting their own business and actually grow the Belizean economy and create jobs for the people.”

Miranda says that they are planning other fundraising events throughout the year to assist the young entrepreneurs with their businesses. Youth Business Trust Belize works closely with other Youth Business programs in eight different Caribbean and Latin American Countries.

Dionne Miranda, Project Director:

“We have the executive director of the Barbados branch Marcia Brandon and she will be in Belize providing training to the mentors because not just because you want to be a mentor but you can be a mentor. She is going to be imparting the skills and necessary requirements in terms of being a proper business mentor and that will be held at the Radisson Fort George from 8:30 am- 11:30 am and then the celebration starts at 7:30 pm. Ten new businesses have been started within the Belizean landscape over the past year and I think it’s something worth celebrating. These young people need our applause, our support and our confidence that we have in them.”

In July of last year Youth Business Trust Belize received funding from the Inter American development Bank to finance the loans to the young entrepreneurs. Their aim is to support or create viable and sustainable business that would contribute to the economic and social development of Belize. The fundraising Gala will be held at the Brown Sugar Marketplace Promenade on Wednesday January 9th starting at 7:30pm. Tickets can be bought from the Youth Business Trust office on Albert Street.
